Text Messaging is proved to improve the skills of spelling among children

This might be a surprising development to most of you, regarding how the children of today make use of “Text Language” abbreviating words such as great, to “Gr8” or chat later to “cht l8tr” which basically according to logic, decrease spelling rather than increasing it.

But after a study was done on 114 children (age 9 to 10) from Primary schools in the Midlands it showed clear evidence of a significant contribution of texting use to the children’s spelling development during the study.

Results that led scientist to this evidence where based on the number of test performed in which these children where split up into 2 groups, and then studied carefully after being given mobile phones to work on for a period of 10 Weeks.

The results showed that higher results in test scores where accumulated after 10 weeks than in the beginning by all the children participating in this study. It also showed that by texting it helped the pupils to successfully decode words and therefore increasing the spelling.

Sony stops manufacturing the Cassette Walkman

The first time the Cassette-based Sony walkman went on sale was the 1st of July 1979 in Japan. It was widely used by journalists because of its portability. A very unusual fact when it comes to this consumer-electronics product is that it was in production without changing for almost 20 years.

Sony was forced to release a newer version of it in 1989 because of fierce competition.

Since the Walkman was born until 1999, Sony would celebrate the anniversary by releasing an anniversary model on July 1st. This would occur every 5 years. These models would be based on a theme while still maintaining some of the characteristics from the previous model.

The Cassette-based Walkman was passed over in the late 1990's which was in favor of emerging digital technologies, however, Sony still continued to make cassette-based Walkman's until 23 October 2010.

Ironically the iPod was introduced on 23 October 2001 meaning that on iPod's 9th Anniversary, the Walkman officially "died".

The reason why I say it's ironic is because in actual fact it is not the iPod that decreased original sales for the Walkman, it was the CD player, also known as the Discman, but mistakes that were made by Sony by putting their faith in losing technology rather than trying to use the portable experience gave way to the iPod.

So in reality the date that the Walkman died couldn't be more perfect.

The Desktop

When computers started out it took up the space equivalent to a room. In the 1970’s HP created the first desktops that could fit on top of a desk also known as the HP 9800 series.

Later on in 1975 IBM created the 5100 that had a CRT display, although small and was programmable in BASIC as well as APL. Unfortunately these computers where expensive so it wasn’t sold for general use.

In the late 70’s and 80’s pc’s such as Apple 2 series and the IBM Pc used standard processors that made it cheaper to use and this increasing its general usage
Today Desktop computers are the most used PC’s in the world and still claim 46% of the Total world market.

Although Laptops are becoming increasingly popular, surveys still show that most business institutions as well as home users prefer desktops as they are much more durable and affordable.

Some of the benefits of a desktop include the following:
It’s very cost effective
It’s very easy to upgrade
Faulty accessories and components are very easy to replace
A desktop is less likely to be stolen than for example a laptop
The abovementioned is just to name a few of the benefits in having a desktop.

Simplify your life, Shop online.

Winter is officially here, and what’s worse than having to stand up in the morning in the cold or out of your warm offices to go do shopping and then just to find you have to stand in a 20 minute line before you finally get to reach the pay point. By that time, not only are you irritated by having to wait in line for so long, but an hour or more is also lost which could have been spend in a much more productive and time effective way

Apart from that, with all the roads being changed and repaired at the moment more time gets wasted by the increased traffic caused by this which, also effects the usage of unnecessary gas, that we all know are getting more expensive by the day.

Did you also know, statistically it’s proven that shopping online is much more cost effective than to make use of shopping through retailers themselves or as we know it “In Store” shopping with regards to the product itself. Not even taking into consideration the money spent on fuel, shipping costs and packaging just to name a few. You also get more “special discounts” and lower pricing when making use of online portals.

I know I can relate to all these disadvantages, how about you? This is why I choose to shop online. Not only do I get better pricing, but I also don’t have to disrupt my day by sitting in traffic, standing in line praying for faster service, struggling to find parking or finally after going through all of this and reaching the pay point just to find the price in the store is not the same price as charged, ending in a half an hour argument before making the purchase.

With online shopping I can sit in bed while I do my shopping or even in the convenience of my own office. It’s as easy as clicking on a button. No lines, no traffic and no arguments!! The best part of it is that you can shop any time of day because it’s open 24/7 all the days of the week.

Make your life better by shopping online. If you’re looking for the best IT equipment at the best prices go to www.ishoponline.co.za The specials are to die for.
